Top Gear's James May opens up on scene which 'cost him several years of his life'

TOP GEAR'S James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson may have moved onto Amazon Prime's The Grand Tour but that has't stopped the trio from recalling shocking moments from the BBC show, which they hosted for 13 years.

As The Grand Tour fans wait for more information about new episodes, James May took part in a quiz with FoodTribe and opened up about his time on Top Gear. The presenter even spoke about one scene which has left him fearing he's lost "several years of his life". But what was it?

The trio are known for their wild adventures and hilarious challenges but one James doesn't have fond memories of involved a food processor.

The first question of the quiz was: "Jeremy Clarkson once made a food processor on old Top Gear, what engine powered it?"

The answer was revealed to be a Corvett, V8, and James went on to answer a second question regarding the processor.

He was asked: "He used the processor to make a smoothie, it was made of beef, bovril and one other B, what was the third ingredient?"

The third ingredient was in fact a brick, which clearly sent shivers down James' spine as he recalled the drink.

"I did drink it, I took a small sip of it, it was absolutely disgusting," James replied. "Yes it was a brick!"

Host Rachael Hogg joked: "I feel that's probably taken several years off your life."

"Probably!" James continued as he took a sip of red wine.

During the pub quiz, James also made a cheeky dig at his co-hosts Richard and Jeremy.

Rachael asked what his favourite moment filming with the pair was and James struggled to come up with an answer.

"Favourite? That's a difficult word to use to describe any moment with those two [Hammond and Clarkson]," he retorted.

"I think it's one of a series of goodbyes we've had on arriving back home at the airport."

While Rachael was tickled by his response she did press him for a more specific answer.

"They're all difficult," James replied before settling on a memory from Top Gear.

"I'd say - wow - the North Pole all those years ago in the Top Gear era was difficult," as he recalled challenges they were set.

"I think on The Grand Tour the most trying one was, probably, I think it was driving John - our homemade car."

"That was... yeah. All three of us together in one car - I don't think that's ever happened before.

"Not for any length of time. That was poor," he concluded.

The moment came in one of the latest episodes of The Grand Tour which saw the trio travelling through Mongolia.

The latest instalment, which arrived in December 2019 saw the group head to Asia and the group will next be seen in Madagascar.

The Grand Tour is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now.
